Indispensables Momentos Bíblicos Con Nuestros Hijos – Must-Have Bible Times With Our Kids
Interrupción: ¡No, Bebé!
English Version:
Hello Lovely Lady! And how are you today? Ready for a Cappuccino? And it wouldn’t be the same without some yummy home-made cookies, right? Ok, let’s get started!
Statistics tell us that 40-80% (!) of children raised in Christian homes are leaving the faith by adulthood.
So we see we must not rely solely on what classes our church or group can provide for them. We must retake our position as the main influence in our children’s lives!
Last time, I shared our journey in learning about and implementing a Morning Bible Time around the breakfast table. Today, I want to show you a typical snapshot into our Bible Time.
You can go ahead and dispel images of saintly children with halos sitting quietly around the table with a pious look on their face as they hang on every word.
We were reading Genesis 2 out of the Message Bible on this unforgettable morning. Here we go:
“This is the story of how it all started,
of Heaven and Earth when they were created.”
Quit picking your nose at my table!
At the time God made Earth and Heaven, before any grasses or shrubs had sprouted from the ground—God hadn’t yet sent rain on Earth,
No, Baby, don’t grab the pages of the Bible, you’re going to rip this one too!
…nor was there anyone around to work the ground —God formed Man out of dirt from the ground and blew into his nostrils the breath of life. (I blew into my kid´s face to get their attention) The Man came alive—a living soul! Quit teaching the baby how to pick his nose, y’all!
Then God planted a garden in Eden, in the east. He put the Man he had just made in it…
Wow, they’re paying attention and sitting quietly!
God commanded the Man, “You can eat from any tree in the garden, except from the Tree-of-Knowledge-of-Good-and-Evil. Don’t eat from it. The moment you eat from that tree, you’re dead.” Dead Meat! Agrrrrllll (with drama of someone dying) someone chirps in…
God put the Man into a deep sleep. As he slept he removed one of his ribs and replaced it with flesh. God then used the rib that he had taken from the Man to make Woman and presented her to the Man.
23-25 The Man said, (Mama breaks into a fun Hillbilly accent)
“Finally! Bone of my bone, (Giggles)
flesh of my flesh! (Mama, you’re so funny!)
Name her Woman (Laughing Out Loud)
for she was made from Man.”
Therefore a man leaves his father and mother and embraces his wife. They become one flesh.
The two of them, the Man and his Wife, were naked, (lots of giggles) but they felt no shame. (they totally missed the last part because they were pretending to “cover up” their naked parts.)
And that is the reality of reading the Scriptures to my kids. I have fun, they have fun, I’m still the parent reminding them of what they know is right… and there are probably going to be a bi-gillion interruptions. But it’s all worth it when the 10 year-old pipes up and says “I love that rendition of God´s creation! What translation of the Bible was that? I’m working with a friend of mine to make a fun skit about an evolutionist vs a creationist…”
Ahhh, family discipleship ROCKS! And the memories we’re building around our table and the Bible are awesome.
How about you? Do you have any funny stories like this? What does your family do for Bible Time? Please share with us! We’d love to hear!
