Lo Que Aprendí En Los Juegos Infantiles – Lessons From The Bouncy Castle
¡Ja!
Me puse furiosa.
¡Cuánto me ama!
English Version
¡Oh my friend! I just want a little coffee with my humble pie, please! (Groan) How could I forget all the warnings from Proverbs about hearing both sides of the story before you judge a situation AND how anger is sure to get you into trouble?
Well… let me tell you exactly how!
At the Farmer´s Market, where my two older girls are practicing their entrepreneurial skills, my two younger kids spend most of those 6 hours in the bouncy castle. The last two weeks they’ve complained to me about kids spitting all over, just to make things disgusting, and bigger kids knocking the little ones down just for fun.
My Mama GRRRR was instantly activated.
I came up with guidelines: Tell people to stop and get out of there… and if someone hurts you, come and get me. I WILL go find the parents and have a little chat!
Well… today, o fateful day, my princess-y, 4-year-old, blue-eyed cutie came and told me a big boy had pushed her over AND spit on her.
I was furious. I charged over there on my white horse, ready to have a show down with the big boy. Only to find out, as his Mamma promptly explained, that that was not at all what happened, and that she would never allow that to happen.
Pause. Just as a side note: I had put on this lovely mom all the bad feelings I felt towards the other parents who were irresponsible and had not been supervising their children the previous weeks. Ugh! Un-pause.
So what really happened?
They may have been bouncing and knocked into each other. And some spit may have flown out of someone’s mouth, as it tends to do when your having fun jumping around with a bunch of friends. But it was never malicious.
What to do? This is a pretty pickle you’ve gotten yourself into, Celina!
Well, in that split second I realized something.
I either handle my mistake my way, or the High Way. It was time to dig deep and LIVE the Word of God or follow the Big Fat Road of giving into my flesh… and we all know where THAT just got me!
Man! Simple? Yes. Easy? Nope. Not. At. All.
But God’s grace is always there to empower us. All we need to do is yield to it.
Yes. Yield is definitely the right term. There was a full-on war going on inside of me. Adrenaline was making me shaky, I could feel my teeth grinding. And these words came out of my mouth…
“I’m sorry for my rash behavior. I see that you are a good Mama and wouldn’t let that happen. Please forgive me!” I explained a little of the history behind my hysterics and apologized one last time. Honestly? That tasted like vinegar coming out of my mouth, but the end result is sweet like honey!
Did I make a new friend? Probably not. But I DID learn a valuable lesson:
God’s Word truly tells me how to handle the situation at the Bouncy Castle. And when I don’t heed His Word the first time, it offers me instruction on how to get out of the mess I made. And He still loves me. Oh how He loves me!
Now, I’m just going to go to my piano and sing “It is Well With My Soul”. Sing with me? And it might just come in handy if you happen to be at the bouncy castle…
So let go my soul and trust in Him
The waves and wind still know His name
It is well with my soul…
